Yet another
New York Evening Graphic find,
Laugh and Learn ran in 1926. What a shame that this is Kerry Conway's only newspaper cartooning credit. That art is absolutely top-notch. His anatomy and expressions are obviously not the product of an untrained hand, and I love the style, which seems to harken back to a look that was popular way back in the mid-19th century.
Anyone know what happened to Kerry Conway?
No luck on finding out what happened to Kerry.
ReplyDeleteI did found out, though, that "Laugh and Learn" was apparently collected in a book format once, in 1930.

Hi Charles -
ReplyDeleteThanks extra much for the info on this book. It must be quite a rarity as there wasn't a single copy on ABE. I'll definitely have my eye peeled for it, though.
I guess if Conway had a book published in 1930, there must be more to the story than a short-run strip in the Graphic in 1926!

In the ILLUSTRATED DAILY NEWS in L.A., this strip ran from 3 September 1926 (with a strip dated for 28 Aug.)to 26 November.(with a 17 Nov. strip) Very careless, beginning on a thursday and ending on a friday. Though the author is a "Kerry Conway", the art is always signed "Pete".
