Herriman Saturday
January 11 1910 -- In 1909 heavyweight fighter Fireman Jim Flynn had a less than stellar record (3 wins, 2 losses and a draw), but Herriman seems to think he was at the top of his game if we are to judge by this sports strip.
Herriman seems to feel that his bête noir is Sam Langford, who laid him flat in an embarrassing one-rounder in December 1908. Langford was a tremendous fighter who had trouble getting bouts at his level due to his race -- Flynn probably seemed like little more than a punching bag for him.
Now Flynn and Langford are set for a rematch in February, giving Flynn a chance to redeem himself.
